The town of Jihlava is surrounded by a romantic landscape Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The axis of the city is the Jihlava River, which enters the town on its 146 km, the city takes on river right Jihláva. The highest point above sea height is 671 m the lowest point of the river 469 m. In the picturesque valley of the river began to rise Jihlavka picnic spot for the citizens of the city. The oldest part was called Little Heulosem planting steep hillsides in the year 1824, later Big Heulos was added. Since 1945 it was called BĹ™ezinovy. The zoo began here in 1957 on the initiative of several local zoo enthusiasts. The construction of the first exposure of birds, which got great public acclaim, helped the then inspector of the National Culture Committee Oldrich Vavra. The current specialization in felines probably started back when visiting circus offered to sell the caravan with a couple of lions. Another beast was a bear, which at Barrandov ended its "film career". Under the leadership of Henry Weise a bear enclosure , a large aviary for birds of prey, a pond for waterfowl and enclosures for ungulates was built, which apart from yaks and ponies captured camels. Unfortunately, the zoo came under the management of the Park of Culture and Leisure. In 1960 Joseph Vitasek became its leader , under whose leadership was a network of simple cages, monkeys pavilion and the pavilion of beasts was built. But when he died in 1966, leaving no facilities for leadership and its condition deteriorated. Animals lacked attractive, money and visitors. In the autumn of 1967 Vladislav Jirousek came to the Zoo. Shortly thereafter, however, the town council decided to close the zoo. Almost miraculously at the last minute the decision was reversed . He developed the first study of development for the zoo and began with the reconstruction of existing facilities and new species were added. The status of the zoo was slowly improving. Attendance of the original twenty thousand doubled. Rare species of animals were gradually collected and enclosures became more attractive. Gradually they also managed to change the negative views of the citizens on the existence of the city zoo. In 1982 the Ministry of Culture granted the zoo status of a real zoo. After fifteen years the efforts of Mr. Vladislav Jiroušek was appointed its first director. He began to write a new chapter in the existence of the zoo and a very distinctive style. Functionally obsolete equipment has undergone extensive reconstruction. Without neglected functionality, emphasis was placed on the aesthetic aspect. Applied to natural materials - wood, stone. Lattices gradually replaced the cages. Especially with the advent of new political situation took a turn full development of the zoo. Improved technical support, extended staff. After the site was built substandard cages koplex relatively large natural enclosures for leopards and features, the Jihlava Zoo has become a zoo without bars. Improved conditions are still manifested in the offspring. The species composition of growing and deepening specialization while at the zoo especially keeping reptiles, small cats and monkeys. The device is capable and adequate conditions for breeding and reproduction of endangered species and is involved in various international breeding programs. Extended exposure, several smaller buildings and improve the technical conditions in the pavilions allow visitors a full tour regardless of the weather. Great emphasis is placed on aesthetics, comfort and impeccable service to visitors. The garden became a place of relaxation and learning. Non-traditional playground, summer restaurants and boutique facilities contributed to the garden, like modern toilets for visitors. Reconstruction of the pool, laying paving, information system or landscaping are just a little icing on the cake, presented and gratefully appreciated by professionals and the visiting public. Its ambitious conceptual work Jihlava Zoo found among the leading zoos. Most importantly, gained the favor of visitors, residents support the city and especially the understanding of leaders and members of political parties. This is the result of our years of work.
